Upgrades to Spring Gully’s Muldoon Reserve have received a boost with $5,000 awarded to Bendigo Mountain Bike Club to create a skills development loop at the popular recreation area.
The community grant from Strathfieldsaye & Districts Community Enterprise (SDCE) will help young riders develop their skills in a safe environment and encourage more people to take up mountain bike riding as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.
SDCE Chair, Catherine Wilby said the community enterprise was passionate about supporting projects that worked to build a stronger, healthier and more vibrant region.
“Having access to quality public spaces, such as Muldoon Reserve, is essential to the health and social fabric of our community,” said Ms Wilby.
“They are places to exercise, spend time with our families, meet our neighbours and develop the connections and friendships that make our community a welcoming and inclusive place to live, work and play.”
Sporting clubs, community radio and school groups were among the other grant recipients announced today, sharing in more than $18,000 as part of the Strathfieldsaye & Districts Community Grants Program. Other recipients included Central Victorian Community Broadcasters for a new transmitter in Kennington, Axedale Golf Club for a new shade sail and Bendigo Senior Secondary College for a series of Robogals Maths/Science workshops.
Now in its twelfth year, SDCE has returned more than $1 million to the community via grants, sponsorships and contributions to not-for-profit groups and projects that benefit Strathfieldsaye and the surrounding communities.
This support is made possible thanks to generous locals who support the enterprise by tagging their Bendigo Bank and Bendigo Telco accounts to the cause.
